New File Validation Utility (FVU) Version 1.2 released on 19th August 2026

The Income Tax Department has released a new version of the File Validation Utility (FVU) to validate TDS / TCS returns before submission. This updated version would address the following:

Summary of the changes / additions in this new FVU is as under:

Applicable to all Forms (138, 140, 143 & 144)

1. Additon of ‘Interest Allocation’ and ‘Others Allocation’ under Challan Details

Both of these were present till Q4 of FY:2025-26 (Income Tax Act 1961), but was removed in Q1 of TY:2026-27. This has now been restored back as earlier.

Two fields have been added under Challan Details:

  • Interest Allocation
  • Others Allocation

Out of the total Challan value, in case of amount related to ‘Interest’ or ‘Others’, it should be placed under ‘allocation’. This allows the relevant portion of a challan to be specifically allocated towards Interest and Others, wherever applicable.

2. Date of Payment restricted to the applicable quarter and Tax Year

A new validation has been introduced for the Date of Payment reported under Deductee Details.

The Date of Payment must fall within the applicable quarter and Tax Year for which the TDS / TCS statement is being filed.

A date falling outside the relevant period may result in validation failure while generating the FVU file.

The same also applies to Date of Deduction (this was applicable from before).

This implies that for any missed reporting of the previous quarters, needs to be rectified by filing correction statements.

3. Nature of Remittance master updated for Form No. 144

As announced earlier in the beginning of the first quarter (TY:2026-27) related to the Remittance Codes (Form No. 144), there has been a major change that has been announced and implemented in the FVU. The entire list of these codes has been changed and further, each such code has been mapped to a Tax Code. Hopefully, this should address many of the concerns being faced by tax deductors.

For Form 144 filed in the first quarter, may have to be corrected with this new set of codes and mapping. Still awaiting the clarification from the IT Department in this regard.
