As per Intimation u/s 200A, for short deduction of Income Tax under salary, I have deposited Income Tax along with its interest mentioned therein. Now the question is how I need to file correction statement?
Short deduction of Income Tax was due to wrong calculation of Tax only.

We have paid TDS amount @ the rate of 1% & filed the tds return within due date. Afterwards we have received an Intimation as short deduction @ the rate of 1%. The same has been paid i.e. further TDS amount @ the rate of 1% as per Intimation. The new challan is added through online Correction Statement under “Add new challan to the Statement”. Now how to alter the existing deductee detail in respect of newly added challan in RPU software. If not possible in RPU software, since two rows for the same deductee for entering two challan details is not possible, what is the other means to update the existing deductee details for newly added challan. Please clarify

The short deduction is caused by rounding off the TDS calculated to the nearest Rs.10. TDS certificates were issued and assessement would have been over for those years. Now we were issued notice for those few rupees per transaction. We realised rounding should not be done at transaction level and remitted the difference along with interest from our pocket since tracing back and deducting form vendors is not possible now. However, remittance of money isnt enough it seems. We were asked to do the e filing : to include a new challan that we paid and also to correct the amounts at transaction levels.

It is incorrect to include the additional amounts paid by the deductor because, it is not taken from the dedctee. Further, increasing the TDS amounts in certificates for amounts not deducted is also incorrect.

My question : Is it not enough to remitt the short deducted amount and include the challan details in the return. should we also revise the corresponding transaction row? even if that amount was not deducted. In that case, failure to deduct would entail the deductee to enjoy the TDS credit for amount not deducted. Ps inform.

with this challan. Please reply as early as possible.

      Dear Abraham,

If the challan status comes as Unmatched¢ then only you can revise. If department ignores the Minor head then the status will come as Matched¢ and there will be no need for revised return.

if i have deducted tds of Rs 400 instead of Rs 500,then interest will be charged on which amount ie rs 500 or rs 100.

      Dear Vipul,

Interest will be charged on that part of tds which was submitted late. In case payment for both the deductions were submitted on time then no interest will be charged. However, if the payment of Rs. 100 was made late then interest will be charged only on that part.
